Who does it apply to?
Title IX – Students, faculty, & staff at educational institutions receiving federal funds
Criminal – All states and all citizens

What is the scope of conduct?
Title IX – Any harassing or discriminating conduct related to sex, whether criminal or not
Criminal – Only conduct defined as criminal by law

What kind of law?
Title IX – Civil/Civil Rights (federal)
Criminal – Criminal (state & federal)

What is someone accused of?
Title IX – Civil Rights Violation (infringing on another’s right to an education)
Criminal – Crime (misdemeanor or felony)

What are the goals?
Title IX – Remedy & reduction of the effects of discrimination restoration of community safety
Criminal – Community safety & maintenance of norms, punishment, retribution

What are the outcomes?
Title IX – Resolutions, rememdies, and sanctions
Criminal – Verdicts and sentencing”
